Tower Challenge
The Challenge:
Build an observation tower, using the given supplies, that will support weight on top. A platform is provided to be used as the top of the tower to place the weight on. Each tower is judged on HEIGHT, STRENGTH, and AESTHETICS.
The Background:
This challenge is a quick 30 minute project from our Makerfication line of projects. Makerfication is an idea that Rick Funes and I came up with where aspects from Gamification and the Maker Movement come together in a symbiotic relationship to enhance engagement in the classroom and increase excitement in Project Based Learning(PBL). It is hands-on learning, high intensity collaboration, and on-the-move excitement! Unlike typical projects where the outcome and product produced is the focal point and goal of the project, Makerfication's focus is on the journey and experience gained along the way. As such, Makerfication promotes 21st Century Skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and design thinking.
